subject: How To Lose Weight Quickly #3 You Just Got Schooled Son! [print this page] Some people just have to learn the HARD WAY.
Was talking to a buddy of mine not long ago, and the subject of training and working out came up. You see, he just came home from serving in Iraq (Army), and he was mentioning that he was interested in how to lose weight quickly. Hes in pretty good shape now, so that wasnt the concern. However, since he was only going to be going to drill one weekend per month, he was gonna have to start working out to make sure he kept himself in good shape. And he knew that if he could find what some of the best ways of how to lose weight quickly were, he could use them in his everyday life, and keep himself fit.
So, I told him about the benefits of circuit training all the kinda stuff I've written about in previous articles.
Well, he tells me that all sounds cool, but wants to know how much running hes gonna have to do. I tell him he probably should do some every now and then just to be used to running for any kind of Army PT he might have to do. Other than that, though, he wouldnt have to do any running.
He wasnt having it. No way you can have good cardio without running he tried to tell me. And youre saying you dont need to run to lose weight fast? Not a chance. Youre wrong.
*sigh*
So I tried to RE-EXPLAIN it all to him. I could tell he thought I was full of crap. Fine. Lets SHOW him. So I told him to get to my place, and be ready for a workout.
Now, for days before this all went down, I had felt like absolute crap. I dunno if it was a bug, a virus, or what, but whatever it was, it hammered me pretty good. But I didnt care how lousy I felt I was gonna show this dude what was what.
So he comes over, and I put him through what I tell him is a basic cardio workout kind of a mish-mash of a few things I like to use in very early phases of circuit training workouts.
We start off with some real easy bodyweight GPP (circuits of bodyweight calisthenics), then do some heavy single arm dumbbell clean and overhead press and single arm dumbbell rows, with medicine ball wood-choppers, seal jacks, and other stuff in between. We did a couple other little things, and then finished up with good ole burpees for 50 reps, 10 at a time, resting only 20 seconds between sets.
Now, mind you, my buddy is a small dude. Hes 130-140 lbs at the most. And given his recent military service, he should be in good shape, right? I know he thought he was gonna show me.
How did it go? Well.lets just say I drove his tail into the ground. The worst part of it all? His wind he couldnt EVER catch his breath.
I dont say any of this to brag or make myself sound tough or whatever. Im telling you all this to prove a point
the same point Ive been trying to drive home for a while.
Actual cardio training just IS NOT necessary to be in good shape. Circuit training done the right way will get you amazing cardio, build strength, muscle, help you be fast, and make you more athletic.
Oh, and how about it being how to lose weight quickly? Well, it was funny because a couple days later, my buddy called me up to tell me that since wed done that workout together, his hunger had taken this crazy turn. He had barely gotten hungry at all, but when he was hungry, it he was just ravenous! But then he could eat just a little (esp if it was something dense meat, chicken, fish, etc) and be full!
(This all happens because of how your metabolism gets revved up and stays revved up from intense circuit training.) He said that he didnt need to lose any weight, but he had an old high-school classmate that was getting ready to enlist and needed to drop some weight before his PT entrance test. He was going to have him do the kind of workout Id put him through, because he knew itd get him in shape and hed make weight in no time.
