Driving Your Car Abroad

A lot of people like to go to Europe for their holidays, but favour driving their cars instead of waiting at the airport and boarding a plane. The benefits of taking your car are viable; you can take more luggage, you don't have to check in hours before and you can listen to your music as loudly as you like.

But there are some things to consider when you are driving on holiday.

In Europe, they drive on the other side of the road to us in the UK, so driving on the right hand side will seem strange. Take extra care at roundabouts, and if you are tired, don't drive as your brain will click back into what you are used to.

Say "think right Look Left" when you approach roundabouts or junctions: saying it out loud should help it stick in your memory better and will cause you to look to the place the first danger might come from.

Make sure you know the rules of the road in the country you are driving and stick to them. Understand al the different road signs, and remember the general rule across the world; that triangles warn, circles prohibit and rectangles inform.

Don't fall into local habits like tailgating, as Europeans have far more aggressive driving habits.

Try not to overtake, as it is bad enough in a country where you know the roads, but there may be different rules. If you are going to overtake, do it safely.

Make sure that your Car Insurance provider covers you for taking your vehicle abroad.
