Dating Tips - What to Say and What to Share on a Date

There's no shortage of dating tips and dating advice to help you make the most of your dates, and people date for many different reasons. The old fashioned purpose of dating was to find a mate. These days people date just for something to do, for sexual connections, for activity partners, out of boredom, and very often just because everyone else is doing it and it seems expected. No matter what your reasons for dating, you will say and share all sorts of things on a date ranging from innocent and helpful to harmlessly irrelevant to the completely inappropriate.

How many times have you come away from a date thinking "why did I say that" or "why did they say that"? Too much information can often ruin your chances for another date. To make matters worse, people like to talk about their bad dating experiences and soon rumors and a bad reputation for sharing TMI (too much information) gets in the way of getting other dates with other people.

Inappropriate things to say on a date include talking at length about past boyfriends or girlfriends, past sexual partners or experiences, how much you hate your job, government, mother, life, etc. Any dating conversation that leads you or your date toward saying or sharing what you do not like does not add anything positive to a date. Negative is the wrong direction to take.

Irrelevant dating conversation can be anything from everyday small talk about the weather to mentioning your favorite sports and they don't usually harm your future dating opportunities. At the same time they don't usually help your chances of a next date either which is why they are, for the most part, irrelevant.

Innocent things like "I like cats" are perfectly fine to talk about as long as you don't spend most of the date talking and talking about your cats. A better sort of innocent, positive things to share on a date are things that will encourage or even lead your date toward sharing positive things about themselves.

What you want to do is say and share things that feel good to say and feel good to hear. Think about saying and sharing things you like, things you enjoy doing, things you hope to do, and things you are now working to achieve. Anytime you talk about what you like, you do it with a smile and smiles are infectious in a good way. When you feel good your date feels it too. What you want is for your date to go home and think about how much fun they had with you and how uplifting and positive you are. People like to be around those who bring out the good in them. Very often they will go out of their way to be around people like this. That is how you create a good, lasting impression on a date.
