Organizations that have a large organization structure have a hierarchy of management that keeps the operations from running efficiently and smoothly. Regardless of level of management, whether upper level managers, middle level manager or supervisors, our responsibility is to make sure that we direct our people to achieve the organizational objectives. One of the main issues faced in any business is the lack of qualified management level supervisors. Keep in mind that people are the key means in the success of any business and it all starts with a strong management team.

To identify someone for a management position, it helps immensely to look for certain attributes that tend to be found in good manager.Good Managers motivate employees; they believe that employees are as important to them just as the company's success is. They possess strong people skills in terms of understanding and relating well to them. They are willing to seek input from employees and build consensus.

Good Managers learn from previous mistakes and gain respect from a team. They are willing to admit to their own shortcomings and mistakes and do not feel a persistent need to be right. They are able to be direct when needed without being abusive or offensive.

A good manager should have strong verbal and written communication skills. He should even posse's qualities like excellent listener, sharp, open minded, well-controlled ego, honest, mature and flexible. They should know how to diplomatically deal with their employees issues. A good manager will have sincere interest in people and their well-being. Every time your subordinates do a good job it's important for you to acknowledge them. And every time you're subordinate makes a mistake it is important that you correct them right away so that they can improve on their work efficiency. A good manager should realize that the only way to his success is by hiring good people and they should not be micromanaged.

All of us bring certain personality traits and associated behaviors to the workplace. The two key factors to become an excellent manager are; One being self-aware and two understanding that changes in behavior are likely necessary. Those who can achieve self-awareness and appropriate behavioral modifications will typically achieve the highest levels of success as managers.
