subject: Sales Jokes A Must For A Good Working Environment [print this page]

Many companies fail to recognise the enormous benefit of including staff when telling jokes about sales or other funny stories, or by telling a good sales meeting joke to keep sales staff engaged during training sessions.

Taking an inclusive approach to humour in the office environment will generate a much more enthusiastic and motivate team in the office. Rather than excluding some staff from jokes on sales, about administration or even management, by bringing all staff into the fold on humour you will create considerable team spirit across all divisions of a business.

In some institutional reports on camaraderie and loyalty in the workplace, research indicates that the sales team in organisations often consider themselves superior to the administration employees. They separate themselves from the other staff and will often exclude them from weekend anecdotes or sales jokes that they share only with the sales team. This creates division in the workplace and can be destructive. Work colleagues who feel excluded will often sabotage the sales team by not passing on important messages or requests for meetings.

This type of scenario can be easily avoided by simply encouraging an inclusive organisational culture and letting the sales team know the importance of including other staff members when telling jokes about sales or any other topic. They should be reminded of course that adult sales jokes may not always be appropriate and that they should exercise caution where this is concerned. Adult sales jokes are definitely not appropriate in mixed company or where there is a significant age difference within the organisation.

A good sales training joke is obviously one that can be relayed in a sales meeting but this is not to say it cannot be shared later with the administration or management staff. Jokes on sales are readily accessible online so you should ask your sales manager and the sales team to check out the internet to identify a few good sales jokes that would be well received by others in the office.

Embracing humour as one of your organisations values is a good way to reinforce its importance to the organisational culture. A happy work place is one that employees are keen to get to each morning. If there is a sense of inclusiveness in the office the staff will work as a team to achieve targets and support one another.

Research indicates that if humour (including sales jokes) is part of the working day, then that working day is much more productive. The reality is that without good interaction between staff the workplace can be dull and uninviting. A lack of enthusiasm will soon pervade the place and staff turnover levels are likely to increase.

Where humour is a real part of each day, by telling a few good sales jokes, staff members reported feeling much happier about their work environment, much more motivated to complete jobs efficiently, much more supportive and understanding of the sales team and the pressure of achieving targets, much more loyal to the company, and equally as important, much more focused on the success of the business.
