subject: Five Star Rating For The New Passat [print this page]

The 7th generation Volkswagen Passat was unveiled earlier on this year; it is a stunning looking vehicle which combines sharp angles with smooth curves. The front end looks very masculine yet welcoming. The face lifted 2010 model has been designed by Klaus Bischoff and Walter de Silva, though only a facelift every panel on the new Passat has been changed.

As with any new car the new VW Passat had to undergo the latest Euro NCAP crash test, its predecessor underwent the same crash test and was awarded the maximum stars. The new Passat has also achieved top marks in the Euro NCAP test achieving five stars. The Passat scored highly for adult and child occupant protection and pedestrian safety.

Volkswagen Glasgow has fitted the new Passat with new pioneering driver aid technology; it has 2 new systems; the automatic fatigue detection system and Automatic Distance Control (ADC) system. The fatigue detection system monitors driver inputs and emits an audible and visual warning automatically to recommend a break if required.

The ADC system introduces the new city emergency braking function, what this does is if there is an unavoidable collision detected by the system at speeds below 18mph then the brakes are automatically applied. Similarly if a rear collision is detected then the system applies the accelerator as long as the road ahead is clear.

The Passat also comes with an array of other safety equipment such as; optimised body-shell rigidity and highly effective airbag and driver assistance systems including Anti-lock Braking System with Hydraulic Brake Assist and Electronic Stabilisation Programme.
