Sell my story
Sell my story

For many years I worked as an agony aunt and often had to deal with journalists. Some were lovely and decent others were vultures. Who can you trust with your story?

Well think on this.... I recently had a journalist approach me. She tried to persuade me that whenever I get clients who have been through a terrible time emotionally I should persuade the client to sell their story to her so that she can write about it and sell it to newspapers and magazines. When I mentioned to her that sometimes theses clients are too upset and emotionally vulnerable to deal with reporters, let alone have their stories plastered everywhere for all to see, she did not care. All she was concerned about was getting as many stories as possible and earning as much as possible.

Where I am different is that I have often been on the receiving end of attention from the Press.

And I worked as an agony aunt and therapist for a long time, where I put the emotional welfare of the person first. I would say if it is best for you to forget about selling your story. I would be honest and tell you if you should wait and heal first or leave it altogether. Unlike the typical reporter who is young and hungry for new blood (and money) with an editor to please, I am self employed with nobody to please but myself, and I am no longer young - so I have no money worries and turn away work.

The other big difference between a journalist and me is that they spend all day every day chasing after and writing stories. Every day they look at their fresh leads and try to turn them into money spinners. In a month they will have forgotten you exist. I only take a few leads so I can try harder, care more, give you more time, be more honest.

Contact me with no obligation whatsoever just giving me your christian name, age, and an idea of what has happened/the story and how you feel. You can leave out your location, phone number, full name etc for now. feistysmartlady@aol.com.
