Glee, the hit new TV show that first aired in '09 on Fox, is a musical dramedy that takes us into the members in a local Ohio high school's re-invigorated Glee club. The club (who goes by the name The New Directions) is competiting in the local performance choir circuit and all the while its members are battling social, romance, and sex issues.
Season 2 is presently airing on FOX and the Glee DVD (and Blu-ray) for the 1st season was released this past fall. With that, I thought I'd do a round-up of user reviews on the first season and give you a feel for exactly what you will be getting.
What Users Like:
"Glee has created a completely new genre of television." - This is definitely one of the elements of Glee that truly makes it unique relative to traditional television. The concept of creating a musical dramedy TV show is just completely new and the way in which the directors combine pop music along with show tunes hits really sets the series apart.
"The character of Sue is one of the best characters written on any show today." - Sue is definitely a fan favorite and she supplies a big part of the humor that makes Glee a really fun series to watch. Her lines are perfectly written and often mischeviously cut into the other adult lead, Mr. Schuester.
"I've watched the entire season FIVE times in a row. I LOVE it." - Once again, the musical nature of the show makes it extremely watchable. It's almost comparable to watching a television show that's littered with amazing music videos - you love the music videos so much that you simply can not stop watching the entire show.
What They Don't:
"Don't be mis-led by the many one star reviews... most are just ill-founded opinions about feeling forced into purchasing the 1st half of Glee Season 1." - It appears that a lot of reviewers online are annoyed by the fact that the first half of season 1 was released and now a Glee DVD (or Blu-ray) for the entire 1st season has been released. This confuses me a bit though as a Glee DVD for the 2nd half of season 1 was also released, allowing folks who bought the 1st half of the first season to round out their collection. That being said, the second volume of season 1 is currently more costly than the entire first season, so that may be frustrating some customers.
Hope the Glee DVD review snapshot was helpful to you. Have fun with your gleekdom!
