The Latest CCi Edits Version 16.1
The Latest CCi Edits Version 16.1

Version 16.1 of the CCI edit database went into effect on April 1, 2010. Look for the latest CCI edits for effective CCI coding. There were 2,054 new edit pairs which went for release this time. 35 of these edits are retroactive to October 1, 2009.

This implies that if you billed for one or more of these retroactive edits and were paid, then you may be subject to repayment:

142 edit pairs are reported as no longer effective' in this release. Four are terminated retroactive to 31 December, 2005, four are retroactive to 31 December, 2006 and 76 are shown as no longer effective' retroactive to December 31, 2007. This implies that if you were denied claim during these periods due to a CCI edit pair, you should now be able to resubmit the reimbursement claim and get paid.

There are 1,947 changes with respect to the modifier indicator, with 1,892 turning from an indicator of 0 (no modifier permitted) to an indicator of 1 (modifier permitted). Due to this 55 edit pairs reported a change in the modifier indicator from a 1 to a 0.

There are 1,337 duplicate edit pairs in the database, in total. It is because these records were made effective at one point, then destroyed and was again made effective. Currently, there are 5,309 swapped pairs also. These are the pairs that were established in one order (99350 as column 1 and 96416 as column 2), destroyed/removed and then are re-activated in the opposite order (96416 as column 1 and 99350 as column 2).
