In my last article I spoke about the importance of being an effective listener. The reason is that it is a very good idea to let others talk so we can get an idea of what their interests are.

You can the talk to them on a subject of interest to them, which keeps them listening to you for longer. Knowing a persons interests is an invaluable resource to have when trying to click with them. Opening a conversation on a subject close to their hearts will get you on-side very quickly.

It gives you a distinct edge over the person who has not done their homework. The person who meets others and has no opening conversation. It will be a hit and miss if they will have any interest in what he/she has to say.

A little bit of time spent finding out what motivates the other person will pay off in the end. People like to talk about their own interests and generally like spending time with others who share those interests.

When I first met my now husband, his main interest was horses. His friends and social life revolved around horse events. I quickly realised that unless I was to stand around saying nothing at these events I had better do something about my lack of knowledge.

First I listened to stories being told, and of course people were glad of an new person to tell of their acomplishments on horseback. From listening I quickly gained enough information to hold a conversation with anyone about horses. Just as well as I married him since!

How can this knowledge be used with your home business online opportunity ?

Before you embark on your Internet marketing promotion, you need to identify your target market. Do some research and find out what motivates them and drives them. Then you have gained their interest. If you show that you know what they are interested in they will believe that you can deliver what they are looking for.
