Alumni association is an association of people that have graduated from a particular educational institution. There are various alumni associations all over the United States. Almost every university and college has organized these unities. Some of these associations are young; others have a long history of development.
Cal Poly Alumni Association
Cal Poly Alumni Association is an example of an alumni association having a long history. Cal Pole began its alumni activities in 1907. This year is a date of the first graduation from the school. Though this organization was rather informal. Everything what graduates of Cal Poly did was joint picnics. Social activities have not been initiated yet. In 1936 the association was recognized by other US alumni organizations.
At present, there are about 13, 000 of graduates who are engaged in the association. The number of social activities has enhanced. Each year the members of Cal Poly Alumni Association participate in more than 30 activities. They are not only meetings of alumni on barbecue but also such activities as voluntary work, sports activity and others.
Homecoming Weekend
Yearly Cal Poly alumni meet up for the Homecoming Weekend. It is a sort of special event for Cal Poly graduates. There people may relax after a year of work, meet one another, talk to their friends, play different sport games and also take part in different performances. In other words, Homecoming Weekend is the day of fun and entertainment for all Cal Poly graduates. By the way, the first Homecoming Weekend occured in 1940.
The Mission of the Association
But the amusement of graduate students is not the only task of this alumni association. It was arranged to maintain relations between Cal Poly with its graduates. Its mission is to support one another.
