Mug sets also make a great choice, especially if any that were wedding presents have been lost or broken over the years by yourself or siblings.
There's also plenty of highly stylised designs out there that aren't specifically feminine, but will compliment many kitchen decoration schemes or will look just right on a living room coffee table. You should certainly consider this style approach choice when your mother isn't a fan of girlie designs.
For Fathers
Apart from pulling out Best Father in the World mugs, it's a good idea to buy ones that play off any hobbies that he may have. Sports themed mugs are an easy choice when taking this hobby angle, but if your father has hobbies beyond sports then ones that feature things like gardening or trains can be equally as good. However, a mug does not have to feature a hobby based subject, instead it could feature a pattern in masculine friendly colours.
Tip
If you want to buy a mug, but make it just that bit more awesome, why not buy some small chocolates and put them inside the mug, or a bag of their favourite coffee or favourite tea bags. Or you could get some tea or coffee they have never had before and include it with the mug.
