DYW Scholarship HistoryDistinguished Young Women is a scholarship provided for exceptional educational achievements amongst girls attending high schools. A girl may get involved in a scholarship program at her sophomore or junior year . Distinguished Young Women was implemented in 1958 and formerly known as Americas Junior Miss. In 1963 Junior Miss had its branches over all states in the country. In 1987 the program developed and introduced its platform: an idea Be Your Best Self. On June 26, 2010 the brand of the Program was changed and the winner obtained a title of Americas first Distinguished Young Woman.The support programs function on the local, state and national levels. The head office is situated in the programs birth place in Mobile, Alabama.The mission is to support high school girls development and stimulate progress of their individual potential.DYW MissionThere are several skills and qualities which Distinguished Young Women demand from grant winners and develop in the programs members. They are:1.To support further education;2.To give scholarships;3. To develop girls self-confidence, communicational and performing talents;4.To teach them to interview and also save face on general public;5.To encourage educational, athletic, on-stage, communicative, and discuss accomplishments;6.To give them a chance to influence others lives.Award presentation became a national event on Television for a number of times. Be Your Best Self Program and its Some Main ComponentsOutreach Be Your Best Self develops young people self-esteem. The program, which is persistently advertised by Distinguished Young Women, acts throughout the United states of america. Its five main components are:1.Being healthy;2.Being studious;3.Being accountable;4.Being ambitious;5.Being involved.Every scholarship winner visits each state and, surely, her own area to provide these ideas to young people and induce them to share the same life principles.
