Furthering the Kyocera Mita KM line of ridiculously large yet low performing desktop copy machines is the Kyocera Mita KM-1810, a copy machine so bulky it makes you wonder, what is Kyocera hiding in there?
With the monstrous dimensions of 20 in. x 20 in. x 18 in. (W x D x H), the Kyocera Mita KM-1810's footprint is the same as some business level units, yet it performs like a personal device. Some of its fallbacks may be contributed to its old age of almost seven years since its release, but something still seems to smell fishy with a unit this big that only prints and copies in 600 x 600 dot per inch resolution.
An enhanced quality mode allows for a fast 1200 dot per inch resolution, which may boost visuals to some degree, and its 256 levels of depth should also help some. Copy memory is non expandable and is locked at a mere 16 MBs, which should barely keep the Kyocera Mita KM-1810's top print speeds operational when printing or copying small, text only documents, but these speeds will suffer severely with any amount of complexity whatsoever.
Advertised speeds are fairly decent, at 18 pages per minute for letter and 15 pages per minute for legal size, but, as stated earlier, when any sort of imagery or even full page documents are being copied, these will likely suffer. The printer's warm up time is within 30 seconds, which is acceptable, and its first copy out time is actually shockingly fast at only 6.3 seconds. For all its faults, this first copy out time means that the Kyocera Mita KM-1810 could still beat many of the units of today in a single page copy race.
The Kyocera Mita KM-1810's weight is only half a pound shy of 60 lbs, which means that mobility is nearly impossible. This is probably why Kyocera offers an optional stand for the copier. Its maximum monthly duty cycle of only 15,000 pages, with a recommended average usage much lower, means the copy machine is intended for light volume output only.
Paper handling abilities are expandable with a single 250 sheet paper drawer to compliment the standard 250 sheet drawer and 50 sheet multipurpose tray. Two standard drawers can be handy because the unit does feature an automatic switching mode that allows users to load letter and legal sized paper separately and print to either without reloading. The multifunctional tray can be used for special media types and envelopes, or for additional standard paper storage.
A 30 sheet automatic document feeder can pump letter sized paper through at 15 pages per minute, which is 3 pages per minute slower than its print speed, but multiple copies of single input sources will not suffer. The unit can double as a printer and is connectable via a single Parallel port, and is powered by a 200 MHz processor, which does a surprisingly poor job at trying to make the Kyocera Mita KM-1810 a worthwhile copy machine.
