Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn Powerful Workgroup Printer with Expansion Options

As a more heavy duty desktop laser printer than some on the market, the Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn is more suited for heavy office use rather than individual ownership. It offers expandability options unheard of in personal desktop devices, and an extremely heavy monthly duty cycle, making it perfect for a workgroup that requires high volume printing at top speed.

The Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn's maximum monthly duty cycle of 250,000 pages speaks for itself, letting buyers know that this printer means business, but, on top of its sturdiness, it also operates with extremely rapid speeds. Its letter size page output of 47 pages per minute is nothing short of astonishing for a unit so physically small, and it can also execute 38 pages per minute on legal size paper.

Warm up time runs at a very fast 15 seconds, though only from sleep mode. From complete power off, startup will take slightly longer. A first print out time of less than 9 seconds also ensures that projects of any size will be executed rapidly. Resolutions are also exceptional with the Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn and are selectable between many variations.

A fine 1200 mode prints in a true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch format, while users wishing to retain high resolution but shave some time off printing can turn to the fast 1200 mode that uses an 1800 x 600 dot per inch format. Standard 600 x 600 dots per inch is also selectable and is ideal for text only documents, while interpolation makes ultra high quality 2400 x 600 dots per inch possible as well, completely rounding out the unit's possibilities.

Standard memory is very high, as expected, and weighs in at 128 MBs. A single 100 pin DDR DIMM slot, a standard CF type 1 card slot, and a MicroDrive slot all allow memory to be upgraded, but only to a maximum of 640 MBs total. Even with open expansion slots, the Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn still retains an extremely manageable overall size, with dimensions of 15 in. 15.5 in. x 12.6 in. (W x D x H), and has a weight of a reasonable 37 pounds. In the past, a unit this powerful with such a small footprint would have been unthinkable.

Processing is made possible by a PowerPC 750 500 MHz chip, while duplexing is fully automated via built in hardware. User friendly expansion options include a cool envelope feeder for the business that deals in a lot of postage, and a huge 2,000 sheet paper feeder. Also optional is a standard 500 sheet additional paper drawer that can help subsidize businesses that utilize the heavy volume possibilities of the printer, and a 250 face up output tray can do the same.

Standard paper handling comes in the form of a single 500 sheet drawer and a 100 sheet multipurpose tray, furthering the Kyocera Mita FS-4000dn's heavy duty status. Though the price will run a little bit higher for a unit such as this, it can not be beat for performance.
