There are many other explanations for the onset of amenorrhea besides pregnancy. Amenorrhea does not usually result from a serious condition. It is primarily caused due anatomical abnormality in hypothalamic axis, genital tract etc. Hypothalamic causes include formation of tumor, any chronic disease, or lack of ganadotropin hormones responsible for function and growth of reproductive organs. Deficiency in nutrition or low body weight both of which are overlapping issues can also be a reason for Amenorrhea.

Progesterone is the hormone that causes the lining of the uterus to thicken during the first half of the menstrual cycle. Medically supervised progesterone therapy is extremely useful in treating amenorrhea. In addition to progesterone, there are several other helpful supplements. Some very efficient home remedies for the treatment of Amenorrhea are as follows. Mix jaggery with a teaspoon of sesame powder and have it thrice daily. Soak ten dates and five almonds in goat milk overnight and have it thrice. You can also add a teaspoon of fenugreek powder and oil to a cup of milk and take it twice daily. An herbal mixture of jaggery, flex seed and ghee mixed in boiled water to be taken twice daily before the due period.

Diet high in saturated and trans fat causing high levels of omega 6 fatty acid. Without intake of omega 3 fatty acid to balance it out, it causing hormone imbalance in our body. Other causes of improper diet, such as deficiency of magnesium, and zinc also cause excessive level of bad estrogen resulting in absence of menstruation. Amenorrhea also can result from excessive exercise. Women athletes and performers tend to diet to avoid weight gain. Combined with the increased nutritional demands of intensive exercise, dieting can lead to nutrient deficiencies and lowered body-fat percentages that lead to amenorrhea and bone loss.

Besides helping in production of blood after menstruation, it also helps to stimulate production of certain hormones, normalizing a woman's menstrual cycle. Treatments for POD overlap those for type 2 diabetes (see Polycystic Ovarian Disease). The cause of amenorrhea will determine its treatment. You may need to make some changes to your lifestyle as per your doctor's recommendations. Such changes may include adjustments to your body weight, exercise routine or physical activity in general as well as stress level management. Amenorrhea together with its symptoms are often brought about by an underlying disorder a reason why there are oftentimes additional symptoms that appear based on the condition that is associated with the illness.
