The past couple of decades the world of gaming has relied entirely on consoles that play games from CDs, DVDs & Bluray discs, but not any longer. OnLive, a rather new gaming service, has introduced a new advancement in console gaming.
The OnLive console does not play games from discs or even from a hard drive. Instead, games are accessed from OnLive service servers directly through internet access allowing gamers to play OnLive games without having to purchase a disc copy or store games on the console.
The OnLive service has been dubbed as being the "console killer". Why is this? Well, it is more than likely because of the cost of the OnLive console & OnLive games.
First of all, the OnLive console, which starts shipping out December 2nd, 2010, costs just $99 to purchase. This is about 2 to 3x less than the big name consoles on the market today.
And we all know that games for systems like the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii cost about $60 each upon release. OnLive service allows user to purchase and play brand new games both on the PC and the OnLive console for as cheap as $20.
Could this new gaming service put the big guys out of business? With the low prices and new technology it is certainly very possible. The OnLive service has been causing a large stir in the gaming industry and has Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo on their toes waiting to see what is going to become of the OnLive console.
