Importance of learning a new language has become so significant after the world has transformed into a GLOBAL VILLAGE. People learn new languages for different reasons - religious, international commerce, or simply for personal development. But be it Arabic, Chinese, or Italian, there are two basic types of the language that must be learnt. One is the importance of learning a new language in terms of speaking; and the other is importance of learning a new body language.
The most important factor in the verbal language is to know the correct pronunciation of every word. Since similar words with slight difference in spellings have different meanings and can create huge (bad or good) impact if we do not pronounce it correctly.
For example, accept and except, affect and effect, hostel and hostile, close and clothes, advice and advise have almost similar pronunciation but totally different meaning in English language all together. Importance of learning Body language of different cultures also plays an important role in knowing their traditions and perceptions and acting accordingly, since similar body language has different meaning in different cultures.
For example, bowing is greeting custom in East Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan, nevertheless bowing is not used only for greetings, it is a gesture of respect. Different bows are used for apologies and thankfulness, to express sorrows, sincerity, humility and emotions in various traditional and religious ceremonies.
New languages are also important to learn and understand the culture of that city, country and region. After learning both language and culture an individual or a group of individuals would be able to effectively interact with people professionally, socially and culturally and share his or her ideas and introduce his / her own culture.
As I mentioned in my opening sentence of this article about globalization, which leads the business owners to think differently and act according to the need of the hour in order to get the high revenues and profitability. To achieve desired results, the business owners are opening, expanding or shifting their offices / plants / factories, getting into mergers and affiliations with other companies in other city within in the same country or in different countries of the world where different languages are spoken and to have the opportunity to avail the facility of getting comparatively cheap labor than their own region. In our Global Village, human capital is the main resource in a nation's success. In order to build excellence in human capital, companies' utmost desire is to sharpen the skills, knowledge and abilities of their staff and managers to cope up in this competitive world.
Thus it is important for career minded individuals to learn new languages and cultures of those countries that are part of their professional work life. Their business interests require them to interact with local public both professionally and socially to help them in their personal career growth.
Another interesting part in the importance of learning new language is that we get a chance to interact with people from different origins who also comes in training sessions to learn new language and experience and share each other cultures and by interacting with them one would have better understanding of different languages.
