Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram Temple The famous Then Tirupati

Thirunankovil Temple is on the banks of a perennial river Thamirabarani and located in a hillock called Swetha Parvatham. In olden days this used to be a jungle called Salivadipuram which is also called as Vaiprachiyam jungle. Rishi Pylar (Bailar) one of the chief disciple of Maharishi Vyasa the author of Mahabharata, Brahma Sutras and the Srimad Bhagavatham prayed to Lord Srinivasa (Mahavishnu) on the banks of river Thamirabarani.

Since there was no idol of Lord available those days on the banks of river Thamirabarani, Rishi Pylar was doing pooja to an imaginary idol with one crore flowers(Pushpa) daily and on the seventh day all the flowers transformed in rich source of light and the god himself with his wives Goddess Alamelu Mangai and Goddess Boomi Devi along with Godess Thamirabarani appeared before Rishi Pylar (Bailar). After this grand Darshan Rishi Pylar established a small temple at Thirunankovil on the banks of river Thamirabarani and started worshipping Lord Srinivasa there.600 years.

This Thiruvenkatanathapuram temple is considered to have an equal grace of Tirupati (Tirumala) and hence called as Then Tirupati whichmeans Tirupati of South. The way to the temple also has a seven hillocks similar to the seven hills of Tirupati and there is a Kailasanathar temple (Similar to Kalahasti ) and one side of the temple is Sreenivas Katta Theertham (Similar to Pushkarni Theertha). The temple has twelve steps and believed that the twelve Alwars are laying down flat to have Lord Sreenivasa's steps on their chest which is an eternal blessing. Many devotees come here and pray to solve their Marriage related issues, attain progeny and before initiating any major business proposals. Hair offering is done in this temple like in Tirupati.
