This week (29th June 2010) Mick Lockwood and Rod Martin unveil their latest incarnation of their Online Mapping Application Maxamundo.
Maxamundo built around open source mapping data allows users to social network around physical locations. Users can add tags, leave reviews, comment and upload media.
Businesses can claim existing tags and add lists of goods and services. The application includes full social networking capabilities and forum all interlinked and map-centric.
The project has been running for a number of years and both Rod and Mick have worked tirelessly to get to where they are now on a shoestring budget. They are looking for users to help test the system and get it off the ground.
The project is looking for further interest and investment to develop the handheld IPhone version of the application, and any interest from researches and academics would be very welcome.
The project which is global in scope first plans to target the student population and local business in trying to establish Maxamundo as a recognised web platform. The duo hopes to develop further their concepts of Geo-Retail, Location Based Gaming and Geo Social Networking.
Maxamundo is currently working with Salford Lids developing a Time Stamp Media element, which allows users to scroll through time and deposit media and memories across the ages. They have also recently struck up a relationship with Alan Mcglone of Eyecatcher Productions, is to develop a historical trail of Chapel Street.
Now we have a functional platform we would like to try and develop commercial ideas, local community projects and act as a mapping tool for researches and academics' said Mick We just need to keep pushing and sooner or later we'll get there'
