Although it is home to iconic acts like JT Money and two Live Crew, it has always been viewed as a city which produced "Booty Music". Lately Miami's Hip Hop scene garnered interest and took over the mainstream radio. It has reached all over the world and is now recognized as a top Hip-Hop talent producing city.
Rick Ross has been recognized as one of five of the best rap artists in the current state of Hip-Hop. He is also the CEO of Maybach Music Group, which has extremely talented artists, such as Gunplay and Torch who are from the Rick's original rap crew "Triple C's" which means "Carol City Cartel". Carol City was where Rick Ross grew up and created his popularity. Ross later created Maybach Music Latino with the support of Miami Underground King to UB of THC. THC is an acronym for The Hispanic Connection. When it comes to Latin Hip-Hop, THC plays a major role as a trendsetting rap group with versitile styles and bilingual rap lyrics.
Pitbull is yet another Latin rapper that has reached great feats in his music career. When Pitbull entered the music industry he was a street-style rap artist and has now crossed over to the mainstream market of radio making collabrative music with many artists across the globe. Pitbull's music is known to be produced either English or Spanish, but always has the Miami vibe. Pitbull, born Armando Christian Perez, created his "Mr. 305" title. Pitbull has even received the key to the city of Miami by Mayor Tomas Regalado.
Flo Rida, another artist from Carol City to achieve worldwide success with his musical ability. Flo Rida, comes from the word "Florida" and "flow rider". Back in the early 2000's he was part of the rap crew The GroundHoggz, led by rap artist 1-Bread. Flo Rida's songs have set download records in iTunes, have had him travel the globe, and even performed on the network television show American Idol.
DJ Khaled is one of the world's most famous DJs, but he's more. On Miami's only Hip-Hop radio station, 99JAMZ, Khaled has his own radio program called "Take Over ". Khaled is also one of the industry's top music producer going under the name Beat Novacane. When Khaled isn't making music or conducting his radio show he is an artist manager for his company We The Best Def Jam Music Group. It doesn't stop there. DJ Khaled has released several successful albums with a variety of top artists of today and still finds time to spin the turn-tables at South Beach's most popular night-clubs.
Among the artists above, there are many others who paved a way and even more who are starting to have a very talented and deserve recognition for the genre, which has been controlled by New York and California.
