Top Bands from Liverpool

Liverpool is a city that is very well known for its home grown musical offerings - which are one of the biggest reasons that many tourists continue flocking to the city today. Where else would you go to when you want to hear the best new music coming out of excellent local bands other than the hometown of The Beatles and The Zutons? Of course, these are just two of the enormously famous bands to have come out of this innovative and original city - there are plenty more.

Naturally, The Beatles are by far the best known band to have come out of Liverpool. Formed in 1960, The Beatles shot to fame during that decade but are still exceptionally well known even today, 50 years later. For that level of fame to have come out of four ordinary lads who formed a band together is an incredible achievement and, from the looks of things, The Beatles are set to remain famous for at least another 50 years - and perhaps even longer.

There are many other, very different, bands from Liverpool, including Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Echo & The Bunnymen, Atomic Kitten and plenty more. Solo artists including Heidi Range, who used to be in hit girl band the Sugababes, as well as musicians from previous eras like Cilla Black, Billy J Kramer and Billy Fury all hail from this fun and friendly city, so it's not hard to see why Liverpool has made its name as a city that lives and breathes music. It's certainly more than a worthy rival to fellow music-filled city Manchester, which is best known for birthing bands like Oasis, The Smiths and The Stone Roses.

Liverpool is home to a wealth of music-related events, including the Mathew Street Festival which showcases local, national and global talent at an annual musical event that brings thousands to the city, as well as various events that are held at the city's Echo Arena, where the MTV Europe Music Awards were held in 2008 and a plethora of other world famous musicians have since taken to the stage and performed in front of up to 11,000 fans.

Of course, which band hailing from Liverpool is the best is all down to a matter of taste, but you can always make your opinions known down the local on a break to the city itself. Perhaps after a drink or two you can head elsewhere to take in some of Liverpool's current musical offerings before heading to one of the Liverpool hotels for the night. You never know - you might just discover the next big thing.
