The main characteristics of student community

Student community has got certain peculiar characteristics significant for defining the student culture. Similar living conditions as well as similar problems presuppose certain similarities of personal traits and life views. At the same time, having chosen the same professional sphere, the learners are expected to have much in common from the very beginning as well.

Another important precondition making the student culture identifiable is the period of personal maturation concurring with the college period. Flying the nest, young people look for the place under the sun and opportunities for self-realization. This results in a certain set of their behavioral characteristics. Independence and desire to keep ones ground may be explained with the process of the individuals socialization. Students often oppose themselves to the rest of the society with the aim of attracting the public attention. This may reflect in their extraordinary music tastes or clothing style.

Critical evaluation of the student culture

Adults should be tolerant to the ways of students self-expression and narrowing the generation gap try to build a bridge to their children.
