Freshwater Resources Are in Danger If We Ignore Them
Introduction
"People, stop doing that!" a small kid said that when he did not find any clean and fresh water to drink. In some countries, people are left with no drinkable water. Viruses have appeared everywhere and the society is getting closer and closer to the end. However, in other countries, people are polluting water resources without mercy. This is happening to the freshwater resources around the world from which people drink. Many things have to change. People need to know the problem, the causes, the solutions and what they have to do.
Some Facts Are Not Clear to Everybody
Long time ago, before the 20th century, the world population was not as much as today's. natural resources were enough for everybody to live in a good standard. They did not have to desalinate the seawater for drinking. As the population increases, the quantity of the natural resources, specially freshwater, decreases. Nowadays, it is very hard to provide clean and fresh water to some societies. People have started to think seriously how they can provide water for everyone in the world. Some countries, which have lots of freshwater, made contracts with other countries just to supply water.
After the 20th century, the world became an industrial world. This style has lots of disadvantages. The most important one is the possibility of polluting the air and the water. some of the industrial countries have no idea about the problem. They keep developing and establishing new factories to catch up in the world. This is really unbelievable that people are going to the end of life because of them.
Causes of The Problem
The most dangerous cause is industrialism. It is dangerous not because of the industry, but because of the way that people use factories with a lot of smoke rising to the atmosphere and a lot of disposed industrial waste in the freshwater resources such as rivers, lakes, underground water, etc. In modern cities, cars are one of the most polluting source. It is true that people should use cars nowadays, but to have more than one car for a family is a big issue. Actually, the whole transportation system is polluting the natural resources. What is the relation between the smokes and water pollution? In reality, rainwater is one of the main sources of freshwater. When the atmosphere is polluted with cars' and factories' smokes, the water, which comes from rains, will pass through the atmosphere and in turn the atmosphere will pollute the water. Most of the time, this water is called acid rain.
Effects of The problem
Lots of freshwater resources will be polluted. The world will have a freshwater disaster(Hadeed ; Borromeo, 2003, p.1). People will start to look for other sources such as sea water. this in turn will cost governments a lot of money just to desalinate seawater. Another thing is that more than 65% of fish species are living in freshwater which means they are threaten(Hadeed ; Borromeo, 2003, p.1). This two main effects will cost countries a lot to provide freshwater and food for the population. Another effect is that many beautiful places, which have lakes, rivers or waterfalls, will close because the source of beauty is polluted. The countries that depend on the tourism will have its economy affected. The polluted lakes and rivers will be good environments for microorganisms and viruses. Diseases will spread between people, especially between children. Spending money on the health sectors will increase in horrible way. Hospitals and clinics will get crowded of sick people and some people will not have a good treatment. This whole thing in turn definitely will affect the national economy and it will be a national crisis.
Scientists Are Working on The Problem
The effects of the problem start to appear, what made the scientists to think about the problem seriously. Research centers have been established just to find solutions for the problem. Everything will be clear if the causes of the problem are known. By this way, scientists can find the main causes of the problem. The main goal is to treat the problem itself not the effects. After a while, closed doors began to open and solutions flow out. The first solution is to stop disposing industrial waste to the rivers and lakes. Industrial waste can be recycled to give us new materials that people can use in their life. The second solution is to reduce smoke that pollutes the air and in turn rain water will be polluted. Scientists have found a good way to treat that smoke so it can be cleaner. Stopping the smoke from factories cannot happen but healing the smoke will reduce the pollution because smoke is a collection of chemical gases and it can react chemically. Some factories use filters, which consist of some chemical compounds, just to react with the smoke and produce new materials. By this way, the pollutants will disappear relatively. The third solution is to change the fuel of cars, buses, trains and airplanes. Rather than using petrol fuel, scientists found another fuel for those transportation vehicles which is hydrogen. This new kind of fuel is the best fuel can ever be used because it is friend of environment.
The People's Duty
Everybody in this world have to know this problem and the effects of it. Governments should establish forums and seminars to introduce the problem to the majority and to give the solutions brought by scientists. Ministries of education must put a subject for students to educate them about the crisis. This will give us graduates with new efficient solutions for today's and tomorrow's problems(Shady, 2008, p.11). People must think about this problem seriously as they are a part of this planet. They have to sacrifice their time, effort and money and the governments have to convince people about that. Otherwise, nothing will change by itself and the problem will complicate more.
Conclusion
This is our planet, our world, actually, this is our life and we are responsible for everything that happens. It is fair if we try to find the solutions for a problem but it is not fair to support the problem itself. This problem has to stop and we are the army that will stop it. The solutions are not efficient unless we cooperate. If we did not cooperate and stop the problem, our children will have it more complicated. If that happens, our children may remember us as criminals. The importance of water is because " water is life " and " all living things depends on water to support life function"(Shady, 2008, p.9).
