subject: Introduction To Alternative Car Fuels [print this page]

With the fast rate of depletion of the crude oil which is the raw material for the fuel used in our cars regularly, the rates have hit an all time high. The costs have raised multifold causing great financial troubles for many and in some cases, causing the owners to sell their cars due to affordability problems. The rates are only expected to increase further according to the current scenario and the trouble only going to increase. On the environmental front, the green house gas emissions have created huge amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere causing heat waves and rise in temperature. These two factors in collaboration have led to scientists all over the world trying to figure out the best way to replace these with alternative fuels which are both in abundant and also environmental friendly.

There are a number of ideas that have cropped up in different areas and are implemented to some extent. Although these newly invented alternatives are not being exploited to the maximum, they show the required promise and can replace the currently used fuel methods permanently over the long run. Some of them are listed below.

Electricity: Electricity causes no pollution and is a good source of power. Many companies have come out with cars which promise the user a 100% pollution free drive. The major disadvantage with these cars is that they need to be plugged into the power socket in order for the car to run. Further, the speed offered by them are limited to city driving which are low. The way to enhance this mechanism is by making vehicles which run on the combination of fuel and electricity hence increasing the travel distance and speed.

Natural Gas: These gasses reduce emissions by up to 70% compared to the current fuels proving to be a pro environment way of travelling. Cars are not manufactured with this facility inbuilt. They need to be upgraded with the technology, which even though has a high initial expense, pays off over the years due to reduced fuel costs and the efficiency of the car.

Bio Fuels: Bio means anything of biological origin. Hence, bio fuels are the byproducts obtained from the dead animals. These byproducts, which are used for the creation of the bio fuels, are a renewable source of energy. Vegetable oil is the product that is used to run the cars. Again, using this alternative source of bio fuel requires the owner of the car to get an upgrade. The amounts of emissions are reduced considerably due to the vegetable oil being carbon free. The advantage with this kind of fuel is that it can be obtained even at supermarkets.

If you really care about the environment and care for all the animals endangered, bio fuels is the way for you. Take notice of the fact that getting your car upgraded to run on environmental pro mechanisms would not only reduce your carbon emissions but also reduce your fuel costs drastically. Go bio, go good.
