Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota Share 2010 North American Environmental Report Progress

Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota are proud to offer the vehicles that help Toyota Corp move toward meeting all of its Environmental Action Plan goals. This month Toyota released its 10th annual North American Environmental Report, which summarized the progress of the company over the last fiscal year.

"Toyota is fully committed to sustainability across our operations. In addition to developing technologically advanced, fuel-efficient vehicles, we consider the environmental, social and economic consequences of everything we do," said Dian Ogilvie, Senior Vice President and Chief Environmental Officer at Toyota Motor North America, in a Toyota Media press release.

Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota want to share the five main categories highlighted within Toyota's report with all Long Island Toyota customers, starting with Fuel-efficient vehicles.

Fuel-efficient vehicles

Toyota vehicles have exceeded the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, and the Toyota Prius hybrid is still the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the United States per the EPA's Fuel Economy Guide.

Advanced vehicle technology

As Atlantic Toyota announced previously, the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle demonstration program began with the real launch expected in 2012 for consumers, while enhancements to Toyota's Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle technology has reduced costs and created an estimated range of 431 miles on one fill.

Reduction in energy and material use

Toyota received a sixth consecutive ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. EPA, for superior energy management. Its assembly plants saw a 20 percent reduction in energy consumed per vehicle produced in North America compared to levels in 2000 and achieved a 56 percent reduction in non-salable waste per vehicle from 2006 levels.

Sustainable buildings and dealerships

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a system used to categorize the level of environmentally sustainable construction in buildings. Last year Toyota added three more buildings to its LEED certified list of buildings, bringing the total to five certified buildings and eight certified Toyota and Lexus dealerships.

Further engagement with communities

Toyota's signature environmental program, TogetherGreen, in conjunction with the National Audubon Society, has awarded another 40 Innovation Grants (80 total since the beginning of this campaign) to support conservation projects across the country. More than 72,400 volunteers have given more than 275,000 hours of habitat, water, and energy conservation time back to the environment.

Both Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota dealerships support the constant efforts of Toyota as the corporation continues to lead the country in environmental progress.
