When I write a release I am mostly interested in two things, traffic to the site mentioned in the release and backlinks, but some of the really good press release sites will want you to pay for backlinks which is fine but you need more than just that one or two backlinks on that page.
You see, some of these press release sites also have a syndication network in the thousands which means that if you've written a good press release and paid to have it distributed with your backlinks included you can get thousands of backlinks to your site with a surge in traffic.
Not only that, some of the syndicated sites that will carry your release also has high PR (Page Rank) which in turn will increase your PR. So if you really want to give your site a jolt, try press release and pay for the extra exposure it's worth it.
