As you get older, it is understandable that your requirements change, in your whole life. You may find that your eyes need a little help, or perhaps your joints aren't what they used to be. Even if this isn't the case, it's a good idea, if you are planning on changing your car, to choose something that may help you in the future.

But car companies don't exactly market cars for older generations, do they? In the words of car manufacturers, "You can sell an old man a young man's car, but you can't sell a young man an old man's car."

So how do you find cars that will suit you? There are a few things you should look for when choosing your new motor, including seat positioning and lighting. Seat height is important, as it's no fun to drive if it's a pain to get in and out of the car. The height of the driver's hips when seated is critical as you get older. Larry Smythe from Nissan said "For someone with limited mobility, they want an H-point that is close to standard chair height. Something not too low so that you fall into it, and not too tall that you have to climb up and then back down. The ideal height is something in between a low sports car and a raised 4x4 truck. Additionally, the door openings should be wide, and the distance of the seat in from the door sill should be minimal."

You also need good visibility, so a big glass area and properly placed pillars that don't obstruct your view will help you with your driving. Lighting is also important as our eyes deteriorate quicker as we get older. Choose a car with green blue lighting as opposed to something tinged red or yellow, as it is easier to see.
