subject: The Value Of Proof Of Delivery Technology [print this page]

Technology has been one of the largest game changers in the courier industry over the last several years, and one of the major areas that its impact has been felt in is that of the proof of delivery that so many clients require from their couriers. Any LA courier that is trying to remain competitive in the delivery industry has been forced to upgrade their software, and in most cases, their hardware, in order to provide clients with what is quickly becoming the industry standard for proof of delivery, which is to receive those notifications in real time.

Although software is an important part of this real time proof of delivery equation, one of the first upgrades that a courier company has to make is to their hardware that is carried in the field by their agents in order to make this sort of thing possible. The handheld units carried by courier drivers fulfill a number of different functions, but some of the newest additions and improvements to the units has not only allowed for faster proof of deliveries sent to courier clients, but also can send them proof of deliveries with more information than was previously available. One of the things that many of the new units carried by courier drivers can do is electronically capture the signature of the person that is taking delivery of the package. This is something that can be very useful to the company who is shipping as they have concrete confirmation that the package has been received by the correct person.

Receiving proof of delivery, especially with signature capture, is something that should now be expected of a courier company. If a courier isn't providing this service by now, it is showing that they are very far behind the technology curve in the industry, which doesn't just indicate that you'll be missing out on that service, but potentially also on other important services which are being rolled out in the advances made in courier software and technology.

Also, having a courier that can reliably provide you proof of delivery notifications is important because it will provide you with important documentation if you ever have cause to dispute a delivery. If a client says that they never received a delivery and you haven't received a proof of delivery notification, you will have the proof you need to make an insurance claim for a lost package with the courier company.
