Social media: Something for everyone

Getting started on social media can be intimidating, but have no fear, there is something out there for everyone. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and Slideshare are all readily used and are extremely user-friendly. All of these tools have a purpose and can be used for both personal and professional uses. No matter how internet savvy you are, social media tools have great tutorials and suggestions for users of all levels.

Facebook is more of a social network, used originally for social connections only, that is quickly being used to promote causes and businesses. Of course it still has its user-friendly social experience including applications, games and photo albums within its features. Twitter is extremely useful for sharing useful information, following news and connecting with colleagues within your field or within other industries. Twitter also provides an opportunity to share knowledge with the public.

If you're looking to speak your mind or simply try to educate a few people, blogging may be for you. Bloggers can focus on a certain topic or write about what they're feeling at the moment. Setting up a blog is extremely simple using sites like Blogger.com and Wordpress.com. If you're into videos you can create a YouTube channel and upload videos. Slideshare is a great service to share presentations with the public, while Linked In is basically a resume on the internet. No matter your experience with the internet, there are social media tools that are right for you. Have fun with it!
