The Ever Evolving Wave of Social Media
The Ever Evolving Wave of Social Media

The world of digital media is ever expanding on the internet. If you aren't a person that likes to keep up with all of the advances in the field it is easy to get behind. Many of us now have a Facebook account; it is no longer the website for the college student, now our parents, grandparents and young siblings all have an account. While some may think Facebook is all that we need for social media, sites and products like Twitter, Linked-In and Skype are moving into the mainstream, if they aren't already there already.

These are just a few of the products that have made a splash in the field. While many of these products have similarities, they all bring a uniqueness that the others cannot match. Twitter is used for instant communication on what is on your mind now. You can follow your friend's tweets or you can follow your favorite public figure. Linked-In is the more professional Facebook. I have been told that now that I am about to enter the work force, I need to have an account. And as for Skype, this product allows friends to video chat with one another.

While this is just a brief overview of some sites and products, there are more sites out there and more on the way. If you are interested, other sites include Flickr, foursquare and stumbleupon. And there are still the old giants that are fading like AIM and Myspace.

As social media advances, it can be utilized by not only individuals but companies and organizations as well. So it is going to be interesting to see where social media evolves into.
