subject: Is it possible to have too much IT and be too reliant on it? [print this page]

The rapid growth of the Internet has forever changed the way people buy and sell residential property as well as the way agents run their business. In the UK around 70% of house hunters now use the web to start their search for property. In fact, according to traffic statistics around 1% of all Internet traffic in the UK is property-related. The growth of the Internet has changed the way estate agents look at software. Dezrez estate agency software provider acknowledges agents hunger for the latest technological solutions to keep them one step ahead of their competition and constantly develops their software in this manner. So are we too reliant on technology? I dont think so. After all estate agents use it to a level to service their business and assist but not to supersede the core values of what they are trying to achieve. Software should match a business requirements and where possible the software should be used to help improve work practises. It is about finding a balance thats right for your business and a supplier that wont supply something you wont need. In the late 1990s, web based offerings, where clients data and software was managed and delivered via the web, was in its infancy however dezrez were already utilising cloud computing. It was clear that web based software technology could do anything an office based system could and more, with the additional benefit that it was mobile and inexpensive to implement. Earlier adopters of this technology sometimes had to endure slow Internet connections; this is no longer an issue as Internet connections are now as reliable as electricity supplies. Software at the time was all server based and linking multiple locations required expensive hardware, relied on poor data replication technology and very expensive leased lines. Many packages including Vebra and Core systems still rely on this out of date technology. The advent of web based software providers such as dezrez overcame all of these barriers at once. Web based software was publicly slated by the more traditional offerings whilst in the back ground they desperately scrambled to create an online offering. Today there are a number of software packages that offer a web based platform for their users. Dezrez estate agency software was the first to spot the power of the web and successfully roll it out to the estate agency sector. As with all software, agents also have to deal with hardware. Is it possible to have too much IT infrastructure? One common frustration is dealing with IT companies that sell technology to agents that dont need it. Its difficult for agents they are being told a number of things by a number of parties! Dezrez is simply the best agency software available in the market today. Having spent over eighteen months investigating agency software, having many meetings with many companies, visiting various computer and property shows around the UK, dezrez came out a clear winner! It's the complete package and having worked with it for several years, it just keeps getting better. James May
