subject: Earn Money Finding Profitable Niches Online [print this page] Finding profitable niches within the Internet marketing world is the initial move you take when creating your business online. A niche is really just a highly specific market, or group of people online, who have an interest, passion, want or need for a given product or service. Many times, you may wish to try out several different niche markets before you can develop traction in locating one that can deliver profitability on a consistent basis.
Locating a specific, sought after niche is the most important goal and one where many new marketers may falter. Often, they don't understand that their "niche" is actually far too broad to attract the type of traffic they want to their websites. One way to locate and narrow down your niche is to utilize what are sometimes called "long tail" keywords. Really, they are just keywords, or phrases, that have several words in them. Because of this, they are often more specific than a short, one or two word phrase. For example "digital cameras" would not be long tail keyword but "buy canon digital rebel xsi 12.2mp" just might be.
While locating the keywords and the audience for your marketing efforts is the key to making them work, another factor is just as important. That factor is understanding your audience, who they are, and when they are ready to purchase. Sometimes it may be referred to as the "customer purchase lifecycle". All this really means is that the internet is filled with 2 types of people, those looking for information, and those looking to purchase something or complete some other types of action. The first type of person we might call "informational" and the second type "transactional".
However, a key point to keep in mind is that one usually becomes the other further along in the cycle. Most consumers will start off as informational, returning to the web upwards of 7 times before actually making a purchase or buying decision. Your goal as a marketer is to capture this sort of traffic late in the process, once they have already made decisions about what they wish to purchase.
Finding the right tools to do this will go a long way toward finding profitable niches that you can convert to sales much easier. Some of the are getting "long tail" keywords that allow you to snag the coveted "transactional" consumer, as well as method to build quality sites quickly.
