subject: Article Marketing Is Out Social Bookmarking Is In [print this page] So all the hype of marketing your website with articles is a whole load of shit! In last four weeks I have been doing a study between article marketing and social bookmarking to see which one would be more beneficial. We know as a webmaster or site owner that we have so little time on our hands from creating new content that would keep our readers and search engines interested that we really need to aim and fine tune our efforts in promoting our sites to the most effective strategy with the least possible time spent.
When I was looking around for the article directory sites that would be the most beneficial to submit to I realized that all of the directory lists that people have been posting are a bunch of shit. I even went to lengths of purchasing automated submission software to see what lists they would provide for their so called valued product. I personally checked every site with my favorite page rank checker and discovered a really startling observation. I could only find 14 sites with a reasonable page rank of 3 or better. Out of over 200 sites only 14 of them were a pr3 or above. Some of you might disagree with me for reasons that could be argued however I am looking at sites that would adequate for automated submissions and of course only checking them with Google page rank.
So after my experiments were done with the automated submissions with 30 reasonable article directories I realized that my site was dropping with organic search traffic. My traffic dropped to only 10% of what I usually get. This might be the time of the year having the Christmas and New Year period on our hands; most of the usual surfers are out on the beach. I couldnt believe this because everything related to search engine optimization is directly related to writing and submitting tons of articles but from what I have seen, there is no need to submit your articles to those useless directories unless you are submitting manually to well reputed sites like Ezine and the like. Dont waste your time; I have already wasted my time for you. On the other hand in a desperate attempt to get my visitors back I experimented on the automated social bookmarking software. Instantly, my site was hot with traffic.
I was submitting to about 30 bookmarking sites and stumbled on the observation between the two experiments. The bookmarking sites mostly used the full title of my posts as a dofollow! When my articles were only published a few days to maybe two weeks later the backlinks were mostly made as a simple http link which was not bad considering they are dofollow, some are not but the difference is the keywords in the title versus the keywords in the hyperlink was so much more substantial in the social bookmarking. I am not saying dont do your article marketing, just advising that Google prefers the social bookmarking.
