Mid Major QB's To Keep An Eye On
Mid Major QB's To Keep An Eye On

While the big names in the BCS Conferences will receive the hype, the glory, and the Heisman votes, there truly is no shortage of talent, and perhaps NFL ready quarterbacks in the lesser known mid major conferences. While you may not see a lot of coverage on the following players, here's a few of them you should pay attention to.

Case Keenum from Houston is a true gunslinger. The offense suits that, as last season he attempted 700 passes, and threw for a staggering 44 touchdown passes, and nearly 6,000 yards. Those certainly do not look like mid major numbers. Keenan returns for his senior season, hoping to lead the Cougars to Conference-USA glory. He returns his top 4 receivers, and the offensive line remains mostly in tact. Houston is perhaps one mid major who could make a run at a BCS bowl game. It all starts with Keenum, and I expect he delivers.

Kellen Moore from Boise State is another one to keep an eye on. Boise State did not lose a game last season, and won the Fiesta Bowl over TCU. They return 20 starters, perhaps none as important as Moore, who threw for 39 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions last season. Moore has shown NFL type accuracy, and if they are able to run the table again this season, Moore could find himself playing in the National Championship game this season. He is 26-1 career as a starter, and looks to add 14 more wins to his resume this season.

Colin Kapernick of Nevada, from the WAC conference, is perhaps the biggest dual-threat in the mid majors. Kapernick threw for 20 touchdowns, and ran for another 16. He topped 1,000 yards on the ground, and accounted for another 2,000 threw the air. Kapernick is the focal point of the Nevada offense, and rightfully so. He was the first person in NCAA history to post back to back seasons topping the yardage markers passing and running. Third time is the charm for Kapernick, who is close to becoming Nevada's all time leading passer, as well as nearing third on the rushing list. Not too shabby for a guy who received only one college offer. A laundry list of teams, I'm sure, regret overlooking him as the NorthBet.com Favorite Pick up in the Draft.
