subject: What To Do When Deciding To Sell Cars [print this page]

For some people, selling cars comes naturallyFor some people, selling cars comes naturally. They advertise their car through their chosen means, have interested people come view it, carry out their best salesman speak and then sell the car for the price that they had in mind.

Other people, however, are not so fortunate to posses these skills and therefore must they ensure that the car and the actual advertisement does enough to ensure that the persuasive salesman talk is not necessarily needed.

To start with, when you decide to sell cars, it is imperative that you are completely honest and one hundred percent truthful to the potential buyers about the car that you have for sale. It may be tempting to leave out the fact that the car was a Category D write off (the lowest level of write off) as the car was fully repaired and deemed to safe and suitable to be back on the road, as although it may not have an effect on you as a seller, it can have a massive effect on the buyer. For instance, in this example, some insurance companies increase their premiums if the car has been classed as any form of write off and this can therefore play a substantial role in whether a buyer purchases the car or not.

Similarly, it can be tempting to make the advertisement for the car seem better than it is to entice buyers to view the car, but again, this will only cause problems for you as a seller.

For example, if you were to put that the car was in perfect condition, when in fact it was only in very good condition due to the interior being stained and some of the bodywork being rusty, should a prospective buyer come to view the car, they will be both unimpressed that you lied in the advert and disappointed that they have took time out of their daily schedule to see a car that they thought was in a better state than it really is.

Once the advertisement has been placed with only facts being used, then it is highly recommended that the car is given a thorough cleaning both inside and out. Some people prefer to pay a fee and take their car to a car valet company, but most people are more than capable of carrying out a high quality clean if an hour can be put aside to do so.

Further to this, when people come to view the car, it is simply a matter of being polite, respectful and courteous. The old saying that the customer is always right applies here and even if they themselves are not particularly polite, it will generally pay off if you are and hopefully the car will sell.

The final point to remember is not to sell your car for a price that you are not happy with. It can be tempting to sell cars for a lower price than planned just to get rid of them, but if you are not entirely happy with the price that the buyer has offered, then politely say no and wait for the next prospective buyer to give you a call.
