subject: Web Development - Getting And Keeping Website Traffic [print this page]

Some people get a domain name and a webpage and then sit and stare at the screen waiting for something to happen. No joke, some people think it's that simple. Of course, when that domain name comes up for renewal, many of those people don't bother renewing. Web development or the lack thereof is the factor that makes or breaks any internet business.

There are people selling their get rich quick schemes that claim you can have an automatic website that does all the work and you just cash the checks. The sad thing is they are preaching to a large congregation and producing some very disenchanted entrepreneurs.

You can have a site that does not take much upkeep, and if you are just hosting a site to give free advice, you don't have to worry with it a great deal. On the other hand, a website that you want to make money with has to be monitored and you have to incorporate good web development.

Every thread and back link has the possibility of driving people to your site. When they get there, you want them to stay, and this is when web development pays off.

A good way of illustrating this important feature is something you probably stumble across when you are searching for content online. Keywords that take you to a blog show how a site is either kept up or not. If all the newest postings have recent dates, someone is doing constant upkeep. Those blogs that haven't had any posts added in three years got that way because the webmaster put it on auto pilot.

Fresh and relevant content keeps people coming back for more. Think about it this way; if you read the posts and get all the information they provide, why would you keep visiting if new content is not posted regularly?

Developing a site is a constant process if you want to stimulate return visitors and blog followers.
