The Lord of the Wind Showdown is an international kite boarding, wind surfing and standup paddleboard competition. More than $19,000 in prizes will be handed out to winners of competitions, including downwind slaloms, course races and free style windsurfing contests. It is named after national hero Alfonso Ortiz Tirado, who was born in Alamos, Sonora, making the part of the festival that is held here an extra special event. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado was not only a famous singer but also a famous surgeon, who was the doctor of many well-known clients, including Frida Kahlo. The weeklong event in Alamos will feature concerts by bands and musical artists in a number of locations throughout the town.
