subject: Address Verification As A Feature In Courier Software [print this page]

Most programs that are sold for use in the courier industry these days contain a very long list of features and functions that many customers aren't even sure what they do. Most of them though, in the hands of a courier company that knows both how to make the most of those features internally and how to properly market them to their customers, can greatly increase the profits to be had at a delivery company. Courier dispatch software might include the ability to wirelessly dispatch your drivers, could provide GPS tracking for clients, and online order placement capabilities. Good online order placement portals will also have other tools included with them to make sure that the client has as easy a time as possible when it comes to placing orders through their courier online, and one of these types of features is known as address verification.

Most address verification software works in the background and only makes itself known if it detects an error in the address that has been entered in the shipping field in any online system. What these systems do is, basically, every time an address is entered into the system, address verification can check to see if it is in fact a valid US address. Just like how you can look up a zip code based on someone's street address, this software will make sure that those two elements of the listed address can work with each other, because if they don't this means that typo or error has been made somewhere in the address. Incorrect shipping information is the reason that most packages with couriers go astray, so this feature in a software program can help to greatly reduce the number of times that an event like that takes place. The software can also sometimes help fill in the blanks, especially in a zip code, if a piece of the address is ever missing.

When a package is sent to the wrong address, no one wins and everyone loses. The clients loses out because even if their package eventually gets to the intended destination, their customers will be receiving it much later than they should have, assuming the package doesn't simply get lost forever.

The courier will suffer in such a situation as well, which is why more and more of them are trying to make sure they have address verification software in their new courier software.
