The province of Surat Thani is the biggest province in southern Thailand. Surat Thani was already inhabited in prehistorical times by Semang and Malayan tribes. Founded in the third century, until the thirteenth century the Srivijaya kingdom ruled the Malay Peninsula.
Some of the wonderful sights of Surat Thani are:
Wat Khao Suwan Pradit, this temple was launched by Luang Pho Choi, one of southern Thailand's most revered Buddhist ecclesiastics. The hilltop 45-metre pagoda contains Buddha relics and commands striking coastal sights of Ban Don district.
Khao Sok National Park, as part of the largest evergreen forest in Southern Thailand, the park is deep with diverse flora including certain families of lotus, white palm, and fern. Khao Sok is also one of the best bird-watching spots in Thailand.
Namtok Than Sawan, this beautiful waterfall is about 3 kilometres from Tang Nam.
Oyster Farm, the Surat Thani people take so much pride in their big and beautiful oysters that they have become a part of the province's motto. Most oysters are raised around the mouth of Kradae and Than Thong canals. If you love oysters, this is a must place to visit.
Ban Khlong Sai Monkey Training Centre, located in front of Wat Ampharam, Mu 3, Tambon Khlong Sai, Amphoe Tha Chang, the centre trains monkeys to pick up coconuts.
Also close by is Ko Phangan which is a very popular tourist destination, mostly famous for it full moon party knkown world wide as one of the best parties in the world.
