subject: The Best Place To Buy Used Cars [print this page]

Although new car sales are prominent around the world, buying used cars is seen as the most regular and popular way of purchasing a car. The reason behind this is that there are a considerable amount of benefits to buying used cars, not only because they are cheaper than their brand new counterparts, but in a large amount of cases, they are generally more reliable as any non-general or factory related problems will have occurred within the first few months of the car being bought from new and therefore usually resolved.

The primary issue that is noted when buying a used car is the risk of being sold a car that is not as described when it was advertised. As a new car will have come direct from the factory and will have next to no mileage on it, there is no risk of any problems having occurred. However, as a used car could have traveled up and down the country and covered well over one hundred thousand miles, chances are something will have gone wrong with it at one stage and therefore there is the possibility that the seller does no mention this when selling the car, particularly if it has not been fully fixed.

As this is apparent, one of the best places to purchased used cars from is a dealership that specializes in the sale of second hand cars. As the dealership will generally have premises and staff costs, the prices stated on their cars may not be as cheap as if the car was purchased from a private buyer. However, it has to be remembered that dealerships, regardless of whether they sell new or used cars, to an extent expect their customers to haggle the price of the car. Simply because a car has a stated price tag of ten thousand pounds in its window does not mean that the car is going to sell for this price. In reality, ten percent could be taken off this price without much haggling being required from the buyer.

Of course, each car differs and therefore the amount of money that can be taken off the car will be different, but at least some money should be taken off the price, prior to any other price reduction process, such as part exchange, being discussed.

The other benefit to buying from a used car dealership is that they will very often have in place the facility to offer warranties on all of their cars. This means that, similar to buying a car from a new dealership, the used car dealership will provide a warranty, generally for twelve months, that will cover the car should it break down or need repairing under certain circumstances.

There are several other places to purchase used cars from, such as through an internet auction website or classified advert section in a local newspaper, but the vast majority of these sellers are private and therefore if you are looking for security with your sale, then these are not often recommended.
