Whitewater rafting consists of the descent along the mighty currents of the Mendoza River in rubber boats carrying guests of several Mendoza's Hotels, escorted by experts. This sport does not demand previous training or experience, although there are different programs that change in length and complexity, pretty suitable for people of all ages.
Once at the leaving site we get prepared and start our excursion to our starting point. Once there, an instructor delivers paddles, helmets and vests, and provides instructions about how to play on the raft.
The stream is varied, with moments of interplay between passengers and others in which the adrenaline seizes your body, feeling our raft struggling and advancing through the rapids of this river.
Nobody can conceive the strange and tempting combination of composure and tempest until it rises to a raft. The mountains, clouds, a challenging and cold river, and the temper required for this trip also become an adventure. The rafting excursions are four per day, from 11 PM to 17 PM. Only for those who are over 14 years, the circuits of 8 and 12 kilometers, and over 6, the shortest of 5 kilometers.
After wearing safety gear (helmets, vests, waterproofing), the always heterogeneous group of young people is transported by truck to the launch of two ponds, 8 kilometers away (the journey halfway between amateur and professional).
The departure is somewhat stimulating and unsettling at once. The guides have the safety talk with the group, explaining everything we need for a safe ride and that admits the possibility of falling and all the cautions that must be taken in this aspect.
With our hearts still and confident, we start the trip, but the agitation is just around the corner and it soon comes into the picture. The adrenaline goes up when the rapids hit the raft and a wave of cold water impacts on our bodies. During seconds of peace, the perspective is unique hovering between huge mountains, the clouds moving over the top due to a soft wind. That is the best expression of nature. Back at the foothills, lunchtime is not enough to exchange experiences. The rafting and the rapids managed to break the ice while enjoying the restaurant's menu with a variety of drinks and desserts. The talks get easily extended with a little help from the chops of beer and the glasses of wine.
The best aspect of this adventure, sometimes small and sometimes unforgettable and risky, is only an hour's drive from the city of Mendoza and its Hotels.
