HOW TO SPOT OPPORTUNITIES AND SURVIVE ANYWHERE

Opportunity is simply a favorable circumstance. This circumstance could be a chance for progress or a time for proper action. Often time people do not recognize opportunities because they do not want to work hard. Ann Landers maintained that opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them.'

It is important to note that favorable circumstances are not always good ones; therefore they could be bad ones such as challenges and problems. But it all depends on how you look at it- how positive you think about the problem and how enthusiastic you feel about the problem.

Because enthusiasm and positive thinking determine what you do to a particular problem, it is important to note that problems and opportunities are combined to form the word- PROBORTUNITY'. This is to remind us to look at problems as possible opportunities.

There are many ways to change problems to favorable circumstances. In identifying, evaluating, seizing opportunities, few concepts are relevant. They include Seeking, Recognition, Building and Creation of opportunities.

Seeking of opportunities involves actively combing of surrounding environment for advantageous circumstances. This means an exhaustive enumeration and evaluation of materials available in an environment and the possible needs in the environment, whether consumer or industrial. This calls for creative study of the environment to discover or appreciate challenges and associated needful ideas for full realization.

Recognition of opportunities has to do with identifying beneficial circumstances. An essential pre-requisite for this process is opportunity sensitivity. This entails reflection on what goes around you to ascertain why they happen and see possible need for solution. Peter Simmons enjoined thus Always look out for that spark of opportunity that could change your life or someone close to you.'

Building of opportunities comes from asking questions on how existing situations can be improved. This is a process in which probortunity' is perceived, becomes clarified as thoughts develop and information is gathered, divided if found to be more than one issue and, is synthesized from an overview of all parts. Many wonderful business opportunities come out of opportunity building.

Creation of opportunities: Jonathan Winters said if your ship doesn't come in, swim to it.' In essence, build doors for opportunities if it doesn't knock. In situations where there seem to exist no opportunity, we have to create it. This involves having an attitude of what else can be done to improve existing situation. It may involve doing things that others may consider unnecessary.

Theodore Roosevelt said: Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they lie in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.' This no doubt will come without hard work. Even in presence of luck, a lazy man will likely miss the opportunity. You alone can cause the change you desire.
