For clothing, you should check the local weather forecasts and pack accordingly. Even if you are headed to a warm climate do take a shower proof jacket as you can never be certain of the weather. Long sleeved linen shirts help prevent sunburn, insect bites and scratches from tree branches whist keeping you cool. If your chosen horseback riding vacation center is in a colder part of the world then it makes sense to take a few layers, as this way you can layer up to keep warm, and strip down if you're too hot!
If you think you will need things such as sun cream and insect repellent, check whether you are able to buy these easily at your chosen destination. A travellers first aid kit with plasters and antiseptic cream is also useful. Finally, don't forget your favourite book. Most horseback riding vacations allow some time out of the saddle and you can spend a few hours relaxing by the pool, or next to the roaring log fire.
