Choosing Art for your Home

After months and months of choosing the right fabric and furniture, placing the entertainment center in the right corner and choosing the perfect chaise, you've finally completed designing your dream home. Only one problem, the walls are bare.

If you're an artist, choosing art for your home is easy, but since most of us are not, this can prove to be difficult. Here are a few tips on making sure that choosing the art on your walls turns out to be a masterpiece more than a mess-terpiece.

Discover Your Personal Style

Many of us have never thought about what our personal art style is. Some homes have a classical feel while others prefer a modern look; it's important to find what you like. One idea is to take a few hours and treat yourself to an afternoon at a museum that incorporates all art styles. Chances are, you'll find a piece or an artist that you like and the museum gift shop is a great place to find prints that you can have framed. Buying prints are a great way to incorporate great works of art into your living space and finding the right frame can pull a room together.

Don't Be Afraid of Color

Chances are, when you've redesigned your apartment or condo, you kept your walls white or a similar shade, meaning your artwork will add color to any room. Don't be afraid to experiment with color. Whether it's a creating your own do-it-yourself piece or splashing an accent wall, color can instantly brighten up a room or make a smaller room look larger.

Relocation is Key!

So you've found your perfect piece of art but it just doesn't look right on the wall you've chosen. It's okay to move your pieces around. What doesn't look right in your living room might be perfect in the dining room, switch it up! The lighting in your apartment, condo, or townhome will most likely vary from room to room, making each piece look different.

Bringing artwork into a home can be a tedious project, if you don't know where to start. So take a good friend and a camera and start walking around, you never know where you'll find your signature piece!
