Kelli Williams as Dr Gillian Foster, Dr. Lightman's colleague and co-worker in The Lightman Group.[12] Her husband's lack of candor often challenges her open pact with Lightman: not to let their professional skill interfere with coworker's personal lives. So, when Cal believes her husband, Alec, is cheating on her, he simply ignores what he is seeing, much to Torres' dismay.
She counters by reading Lightman and when he least expects it, peppers conversations with quotes from his books. It was gradually revealed that Dr. Lightman was driven to study micro-expressions as a result of guilt over his mother's suicide; she claimed to have been fine in order to obtain a weekend pass from a psychiatric ward, when she was actually experiencing agony (which mostly parallels Paul Ekman's anecdote in his book Telling Lies).
How fitting was it that Tricia Helfer played a duplicitous thief who fooled even Cal? As fans of Battlestar Galactica are well aware of, even just people who follow television, Tricia Helfer played the infamous Number Six, a blond bombshell who directly helped destroy the colonies. We've always seen Cal in complete control of the science, despite no one else being on his side. Of course he's always right in the end because he's the main character.
I'm liking the third season more than the second. Cal's blatant douchebaggery is finally having consequences, as Gillian continues to keep herself at a distance from him. However, we do see flashes of jealously from her, obviously because they'll hookup down the road.
His mother committed suicide while he was still young, an event that led him to discovering and researching microexpressions. There is evidence he was involved with British Intelligence. Lightman also mentioned interrogating IRA members, going as far as admitting he was fooled by a suspect's facial expressions that caused the murder of three people in a pub shortly after the interrogation. He has also admitted to being an MI6 intelligence agent during the Yugoslavia Wars in 1994 in an attempt to gain the trust of an intelligence agent that he was interrogating. The character is based on Dr. Paul Ekman, a notable psychologist and expert on body language and facial expressions at University of California, San Francisco.
In addition to detecting deception in subjects they interview, Lightman and his team also use various interviewing and interrogation tactics to elicit information that is useful to their cases. Rather than by force, they instead use careful lines of questions, provocative statements, theatrics and healthy doses of deception on their own part. In the show's pilot episode, Lightman is speaking to a man who is refusing to speak at all, and is able to discern vital information by talking to him and gauging his reaction to each statement. This approach is also taken in several other episodes (e.g., "Do No Harm").
The script of this show is very amazing! It just might be the top-quality scripted series on prime time. What's not to love in this show? This is a residence, and a show, you will never want to leave. You could watch the FULL VIDEO below of Lie To Me Season 3 Episode 8!
