Lyme Regis Shelters Regeneration Update

The regeneration of the shelters along the Lyme Regis seafront is well and truly underway! After gaining permission for work over a year ago, it may have felt like the work has taken an age to begin. But after sorting the various pieces of paperwork such as contracts with the main contractors, demolition of the shelters began early in September.

With the bulldozers working their way through the old structure at this time, there is still a lot of work to be done behind the scenes. Although a lot of the cost has been covered by local councils and other sources, a hefty 350,000 still needs to be raised by the shelters team to help complete all work on the project. Because of this, the team are looking for any donations possible, whether it be big or small, to help try and build the pot that will in the long term create another great feather to add to Lyme Regis's bow.

The team have also set up a scheme where you can sponsor materials for the build, with fee's starting from as little as 5 for a paving slab and rising to 45,000 the sponsorship of a community room in the project. Once complete, your donation will be acknowledged by the group, unless you wish to keep your privacy and it can be labelled as anonymous.

There is also another big part of the project that is yet to be fully decided; the retail shops/units. As well as areas for exhibitions and performances within the new shelters, two retail units are being incorporated within the shelters and bids are now being taken by Martin Diplock Chartered Surveyors.

All of the plans and bid must be in by 12.00 p.m. 4th October 2010. These will then be passed on to and considered by the Lyme Regis Town Councillors.
