There Are Many Things to Consider With Bathroom Lighting

Bathroom lighting might seem like a simple phrase to the uninitiated, but the phrase can mean a wide range of things for those who are in the renovation business or who may have taken it upon themselves to renovate their own bathrooms.

A quick list of the various types of lighting used in bathrooms reveals that there are, vanity light fixtures, wall light fixtures, hanging light fixtures, bathroom wall light fixtures, and modern light fixtures. The list goes on and doesn't stop with only this type of lighting.

With that list in mind you can formulate a plan or strategy for the types of bathroom lighting you want to incorporate in your bathroom renovation project. You have to start by asking yourself what you want to achieve with the bathroom lighting. You can light the entire bathroom with one light, or your bathroom may be larger and divided into two distinct areas. One area may house the vanity and mirror. In this area you will likely want a fixture that enhances the vanity and brings attention to the mirror. If you spend a lot of time in front of the mirror beautifying yourself, you will want a fixture that produces plenty of light.

In the cases previously mentioned where the room is divided into two distinct areas you will probably have more options when choosing lighting for this area. Hanging lights or chandeliers are not often chosen for bathroom lighting, but we do seem to live in a day and age where anything goes. Common sense should determine exactly where the hanging lighting should be placed. Areas where people normally stand should be avoided, but this may differ by the sex and height of the individual.

Energy efficiency is an important consideration when selecting bathroom lighting. A total of over 20 percent of your overall energy bill can come from electric lighting. This is an important factor if you are using multiple bulbs or track lighting at the vanity.

If you take into consideration the amount of light you need, the importance of appearance, and the cost of energy, you will come up with a design that you will be proud of for years to come.
