Mazda reaches 9 million milestone

Mazda's Hofu plant has been building Mazda models since 1982, in November of this year it celebrated the 9 millionth unit being rolled off the production line. Although it took 28 years to reach this milestone, in the past 29 months it produced 1 million cars, this is mainly due to the rise in popularity of its Mazda3 model.

During the ceremony of this milestone Nariaki Uchida, Mazda executive officer and the Hofu Plant's general manager, said, "I would like to thank all our valued customers, business partners and everyone in the Hofu community. Without your support, we would not be here today celebrating nine million units of production.

Advancing from eight to nine million units has been particularly challenging due to the harsh external business environment, but thanks to all our employees and business affiliates working together under Monotsukuri Innovation, the Hofu Plant continues to be a success. Going forward, we will accelerate the momentum we have built up as we strive for the next target of ten million vehicles."

The Mazda Hofu plant has a combined production total of 481,000 units a year, along with the Mazda3 the Mazda6 is also produced here. The Hofu plant is Mazda's main facility for passenger vehicles. Mazda expect to see similar growth they witnessed in the past 29 months in 2010/1011, in the first 9 months of 2010 it produced 330,000 units which is up 30% year on year.

This increase in production can be drilled as far down as its retail outlets such as Mazda Yorkshire which are excelling at selling new vehicles and providing excellent levels of pre and after sales. As a manufacturer Mazda have supported their retailers by building reliable, good looking and economical cars, the future is looking bright for Mazda and its dealers.
