subject: Three Ways To Ensure You Get Fit And Stay Healthy In 2011 [print this page]

With the time of year fast approaching where people start to make their resolutions for the coming year, it's highly likely that you or a close friend or family member is planning to lose weight and start living a healthy life in 2011.

Easy to say but not quite as easy to do, getting fit and staying healthy is a great New Year resolution to make, but without the correct guidance, you can fall at the first hurdle.

Therefore, if you are planning on make a New Year resolution like this, take a look at the following three points to help ensure that you are as successful as possible in 2011 with your weight loss and fitness regime and that you continue to stick to your resolution for the entire year.

1. Kick the bad habits - although this is aimed primarily at smoking, any habit that you have which has an effect on your health and fitness needs to be kicked into touch.

Smoking, eating chocolate bars regularly, drinking bottles of wine every night - whatever it is, it needs to be stopped.

However, it's important that you don't just stop immediately, even in the case of smoking, as you're likely to fall back into the habit easily. Instead, decrease the amount of cigarettes you smoke, for example, on a daily basis, until you're habit is completely kicked.

2. Get a gym membership - the one issue that a lot of people who want to get into shape share is that they don't have the motivation to exercise and therefore whilst their good intentions are there, they do nothing about them.

The best way to combat this is to get a gym membership, whether it's for gyms in London or a small village around the country.

The reason behind this is that aside from the fact you'll feel obliged to go as you're paying out money each month for the membership, you'll be in an environment where exercise is the only thing on people's minds and it's highly likely that that alone will make you feel motivated and determined to lose weight and increase your fitness levels.

3. Plan your meals - you may think it's only a small point, but planning your meals can actually have a significant effect on how much weight you lose and whether or not you lead a healthy lifestyle.

This is because if you're the type of person who decides on what they're going to have for dinner an hour or two before they have it, you're likely to be someone who shops for all meal eventualities, irrelevant of its calorie content.

If you sit on a weekend and plan your meals for the coming week, however, you'll find that you can prepare a list of items that you need and only the items that you need - nothing needs to be bought 'just in case' and you don't need to bother spending time in the supermarket wondering what you should buy, which can easily mean you go for an unhealthy option.
